The Role
We are seeking an Intermediate DevOps Engineer for a 6 month rolling contract based in Christchurch. This role sits at the intersection of system design, automation and continuous delivery, where you will take ownership of designing, enhancing, and maintaining complex CI/CD solutions. This is a collaborative engineering role embedded within active development streams. You will be responsible for supporting development teams, implementing resilient infrastructure as code and driving modern automated pipelines, whilst showing a proactive approach to continuous learning and technology exploration.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing, documenting, and scaling robust CI/CD solutions to enhance deployment velocity and quality gates.
- Managing cloud environments, containerised applications, and production deployments while leveraging modern observability tools for real-time diagnostics and issue resolution.
- Partnering with cross-functional teams (developers, testers, architects) to break down complex architectural problems into manageable tasking.
- Supporting the full software development lifecycle, including clean configuration management, routine code reviews, and maintaining legacy systems where required.
- Constantly leveraging cutting-edge AI utilities to accelerate and optimise standard DevOps workflows from planning through to execution.
Skills and Experience We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 1+ years operating at an intermediate level within agile team structures.
- Minimum 2 years of commercial experience across cloud platforms alongside solid proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Terraform) and Docker.
- Minimum 2 years of commercial experience with dynamic scripting or backend programming languages (such as Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or C#) and advanced Git branching/merging proficiency.
- Practical experience architecting and maintaining deployment automation pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar) alongside integrated automated testing frameworks.
- Solid understanding of fundamental networking concepts and experience tracking system health via modern logging tools (e.g., DataDog, Sentry).
